The idea was inspired by the God of War III influenced song Flame of Olympus. I really enjoy Greek mythology and epic imagery, particularly bronze age fantasy. It's a fleshy and raw and has a big focus on physique. I wanted to evoke God of War without being fanart. I picked the hydra because it's a recognizable GoW boss AND one of my favorite Greek monsters. Originally the heads were just snakes, but I hated how plain they were. So I went to my folder of stuff I love used a dunkleosteus skull as the base, incorporating the snake elements with some GoW frills. I think there's a little Grabboid in there too. For the figure, I went with a woman because all my other concepts were men and I wanted some female representation. I wanted her armor to be reasonably accurate while still being fantastical. To be fair, Greek armor could get pretty revealing. I added a lot of icons to her armor like wards, meant to instill fear in enemies and act as protection to her. She's got the gorgon at the front of her helm, the nemean lion on her arm guard, another hydra on her vambrace, the minotaur skull acting as her underwire (I'm pretty proud of that, lol), and ram skulls on her knees to evoke the golden fleece.
Thanks man! It's weird, because I don't feel like I've changed all that much. I feel like I've regressed a lot, just found new tricks and techniques to cover my weaknesses.
